Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Main Street and Rutland StreetOUS News

Winnipeg firefighters were busy dousing two fires in the early hours of Saturday for the same number of hours.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says the first call came at 1:24 a.m. firefighters were sent to a three-story hotel in the 700 block of Main Street.

Employees who arrived to find the building’s sprinkler system had already set a suite on fire. He made sure all the hotspots were out and turned off the sprinkler system.

Most of the hotel’s residents were able to return to their suites. The city’s emergency social services department was called to help anyone who was displaced.

Then, at 3:16 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in an empty house in the 300 block of Rutland Street.

When they reached there, the firefighters saw that a part of the house had been burnt. They attacked the flames and by 4:29 a.m. the fire was brought under control.

Residents of a neighboring house were temporarily evacuated. They were able to return to their homes after the fire was brought under control. No one was reported to be injured.

The cause of fire in both is being investigated. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
