The City of Kelowna Is Soliciting Temporary Employees for Upcoming Municipal Elections – The OkanaganOUS News

With municipal elections due this fall, the city of Kelowna has put out a call for election workers.

The election will run on October 15, although advanced voting will take place on October 5, 8, 12, 13 and 14.

In preparation for this, the city says it wants to hire about 300 workers to help with the turnout.

“While polling will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., election staff will work all day from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.,” the city said.

“It is expected that employees will remain at the polling place for the entire duration of their shift, with scheduled breaks during the day.”

The city says it will recruit three positions: election officer, election officer and alternate presiding election officer.

A mandatory training session will be provided for all jobs. The pay for the training sessions is built into the daily pay rate for each post.

  • Pre-election experience is essential.
  • Roles include supporting election officials, registering non-resident property electors, looking after ballot accounting, monitoring and directing voter lines, and providing instructions on how to use the voting machine.
  • Shift from 7 am to 9:30 pm
  • The daily rate of pay is $370.

presiding election officer

  • Pre-election experience is essential.
  • This role includes managing the polling place including staff, ensuring the integrity of voting machines and ballots, and preparing ballot account summaries.
  • Shift from 7 am to 9:30 pm
  • The daily rate of pay is $475.

“Working as an Elections Officer is an opportunity to join the community while gaining valuable insight into the election process,” said Kelowna Chief Electoral Officer Laura Bentley.

The city says applications are being accepted online, and the deadline to apply is Tuesday, August 16.
