The Canadian Hurricane Center is hosting a 1:00 pm briefing on Friday to provide an update on Hurricane Fiona, which CBC News will broadcast here.

A powerful storm that hit Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic is moving into eastern Canada.

Strong winds and significant precipitation are expected across much of Nova Scotia, PEI, southeast New Brunswick, west and southwest Newfoundland, and parts of Quebec bordering the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

“Weather patterns continue to indicate that Fiona will make landfall in eastern Nova Scotia early Saturday morning and bring very heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge,” the center said in a statement Friday morning.
