Sweden, Finland reach world junior hockey semi-finalsOUS News

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Emil André broke a tie in the middle of the third round as Sweden defeated Latvia 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the world junior hockey semi-finals.

Isaac Rosen opened the scoring for Sweden on the power play in the first period. Gustav Ozolins tied it late in the second period. Jesper Walstad made 12 saves for Sweden.

In the first quarter-final, Finland defeated Germany 5–2. In the night session, Canada faced Switzerland, and defending champions the United States faced the Czech Republic.

Robbie Jrventi scored two goals and made two assists for Finland. Kaspar Simontaval and Joel Matta had one goal each and one assist, with Finland scoring four times in the power play.

Ronnie Hirvonen also scored and Levi Merillainen made 19 saves. Bennett Rosmi had two power-play goals for Germany.
