Haveri (Karnataka): A 75-year-old woman filed a petition for mercy killing to the President on Friday through the district administration on the grounds of extreme physical and psychological suffering.
According to the district authorities, Puttavva Hanumantappa Kottura, a resident of Ranganathanagar near Ranebennur town, owned 30 acres of land. She also owned seven residential houses and apartments. Unfortunately, she requested euthanasia when she had 11 children.
In her petition, the elderly woman mentioned that although she has given birth to seven sons and four daughters, none of them are willing to take care of her at this age. Puttavva claimed that it became very difficult for her to lead a life with ailments.
She was spotted on the steps of the Haveri District Commissioner’s office, sitting alone and crying.
Later, she submitted the petition for mercy killing to District Commissioner Sanjaya Shettannavara.
