Mahalaya also banned cargo vehicles from entering Howrah
Apart from Howrah, there will be a ban in many districts including Midnapore, Barrackpore, Hooghly, Burdwan.
Howrah: During Durga Puja, Howrah city police decided to ban goods transport vehicles in Mahalaya, so that devotees will not face any problem wandering around for puja, nor will normal vehicles have any problem. Freight vehicles will stop only at Howrah border areas. However, the ticket will be withdrawn for two days after Mahalaya. After this it will be implemented again from Tritiya which will continue until the next Dashami. This is to say from Praveen Tripathi, Howrah City Police Commissioner. In a special conversation with Sanmarg, the commissioner said that this rule is for all Howrah border areas. Since Howrah is an industrial area, large cargo vehicles arrive here. This can lead to a long traffic jam in Howrah. Taking this into account, this decision has been made by the Municipal Police. For example, the Maitipara post, where cargo vehicles enter from Hooghly, Asansol, Chandannagar and Burdwan. Ranihati More where the vehicles from areas like Howrah Rural, Midnapore, Kolaghat etc come from. The third is the toll plaza where freight trains come and go from Kolkata. In such a situation, by understanding the traffic rules of the Kolkata Police and talking to them, the entry of goods vehicles from the Howrah toll plaza will be prohibited. Howrah alone will not prohibit the entry of freight wagons only. Apart from this, Hooghly, Burdwan, Asansol, Kolaghat, Barrackpore, Midnapore Police will also take the same step. This decision has been made only after speaking with them. However, there will be no restriction on essential institute goods vehicles. This includes hospitals, police, press, etc. Apart from this, he said that Howrah city police would work on these points in consultation with various worship committees and administration officials.
