Less than a month after Navi Mumbai Police seized 72.5kg of heroin, worth Rs 362.59 crore, from a container at Navkar Logistics container freight station in the village from Ajivali to Panvel, allegedly for more than six months, the Maharashtra Chief Police Officer on Friday issued an order directing the case to be transferred to the Counter Terrorism Squad.
A senior IPS officer confirmed the development saying that following orders, the case documents were also handed over to ATS by Navi Mumbai.
The officer added: “We had arrested two people in this case. One was someone in whose name the consignment had reached the port of Nhava Sheva while the second person arrested is an agent. Thus, the custody of these two people was also handed over.
The Navi Mumbai Police had acted on the information they received from the Punjab Police, following which the drugs were seized from the container on July 14. The seizure had taken place less than 72 hours after Punjab Police in tandem with Gujarat Police recovered 75kg of heroin. of a container at the Port of Mundra.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been filed against the exporter, shipper and other unknown persons who facilitated the export and import of the contraband.
