Oktoberfest Kitchener-Waterloo is back in full uniformOUS News

This is the return of beer, sausages and Bavarian music.

Oktoberfest in Kitchener-Waterloo started on Friday, and this year the celebrations will span four weekends.

At the Schwaben Club, former president Glenn Herold was among those busy preparing Friday morning.

“We will have traditional German food, we will have schnitzel and cabbage rolls,” Herold said.

This year the celebrations start two weeks earlier than in previous years.

“Earlier in September, we have a better chance of good weather,” said Bingemans President Mark Bingeman.

For the next four weekends there will be drinks toasting, dancing and German cuisine.

The official opening ceremony for the keg will take place on Friday, October 7th, followed by a Thanksgiving Monday Parade.

“We are so excited about this. This year we will have some new floats,” said Allan Cayenne, President of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest.

This year is the first KW Oktoberfest without COVID-19 restrictions since the start of the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to be back this year and welcome people back to the many events they are familiar with and the Oktoberfest they know and love,” Cayenne said. “At the same time, this year we have several new events that will be of interest to everyone, perhaps those who feel more comfortable on the street.”

Some pandemic events, such as the Wunder Wagon, will remain.
