Man rescued after cement mixer truck crashes into houseOUS News

A man was rescued and in shock when a cement mixer truck crashed into a house in Co Tyrone.

The incident occurred on Main Street in Pomeroy, shortly before 8 am today.

Police and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) arrived on the scene.

A person trapped in a first-floor apartment in an adjacent building was rescued after the accident.

NIFRS group commander Mark Maginnes said a structural assessment was underway to determine if the building was at risk of collapse.

He said no one was injured in the incident, but one person was saved.

Maginnes said, “Fire crews rescued the gentleman from a first-floor apartment and escorted him down the stairs as it was not safe to leave the property any other way.

“He was treated for shock”

“There was a family in the house who got hit by the truck, but luckily no one was injured in that house.”

Local Sinn Féin councilor Cathal Mallaghan said the accident caused significant damage to the building and local residents she spoke to were “really shocked”.

“People were having their breakfast. It’s obviously the last thing you expect,” he said.

“The room the truck went through was the game room in the house. If it had been later in the day, maybe the kids would have played there. So it’s really lucky that no one was hurt.”

Many houses on the side of the road were evacuated as a precaution and the road was closed to traffic.
