It’s Gehlot versus Tharoor: Congress issues notification for presidential pollOUS News

The Congressional Central Electoral Authority issued a notification for the AICC Presidential elections on Thursday.

According to the notification, while the application forms will be available from Thursday, the submission of applications will take place between September 24 and 30.

The review of applications will take place on October 1 and on the same day a list of valid candidates will be published. The last withdrawal date is October 8, after which a final list will be published. While the ballot will take place on October 17, the counting will take place on October 19.

Amid hectic political lobbying, there is a likely contest between Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor while Suresh Pachauri also met Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, in addition to Mukul Wasnik and Pawan Bansal.

Ashok Gehlot had met with Acting Congress Leader Sonia Gandhi and the meeting lasted two hours after which he left for Kerala to join Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

Sources said Sonia Gandhi has claimed the ballot will be fair and she will not support any candidate. Apparently, the Rajasthan issue was also discussed at the meeting, but there is no official word on it.

Gehlot is expected to submit his candidacy next week for the post of president. However, he is reluctant to leave the chair of the chief minister of the state.

Rajasthan’s chief minister, who arrived in the nation’s capital on Wednesday morning, told the media ahead of the meeting that he would shy away from no responsibility. “I will not shy away from any responsibility and I will serve the party everywhere and in any capacity,” he said.

Gehlot expressed his willingness to take on all the responsibilities given and hinted that he can handle the posts of party leader and chief minister simultaneously. He said he did not aspire to any position but wanted to work for the ousting of the “fascist” government (BJP).

Meanwhile, Congressman Shashi Tharoor visited the AICC office on Wednesday to check the list of delegates ahead of the notification process.
