Chandigarh wants to win Kabaddi gold at National Games with five PKL players

Boasting five stars from the Pro-Kabaddi League (PKL), the Chandigarh kabaddi team arrive in the Gujarat capital hoping to win the men’s gold medal at the 36th National Games. The Kabaddi event begins three days before the grand opening ceremony on September 29. It will end on October 1. This has been done to ensure that players can participate in PKL Season 9 starting on October 7. Chandigarh’s Lakhwinder Singh, who has played for U Mumba and Gujarat Giants in the PKL, feels he is part of a team that is strong in all departments. “I think we should win a gold medal at the National Games,” he said.

He also revealed that he had taken a break from the PKL season to prepare for the National Games. Lakhwinder will be joining PKL heroes Rinku Hari Charan, Rakesh Kumar, Rohit and Vicky Atar Singh in the Chandigarh team making it a strong team. Lakhwinder Singh said, “Kabaddi has come a long way since the introduction of PKL.” He said the league has inspired many youngsters to take up the sport.

Rinku Hari Charan, who plays for U Mumba, however, admitted that the competition at the national games will be tough. “It will be a tough fight against Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka who also have good players. We have a strong team with experienced players and we will do our best to win the gold,” he said. Eight teams from Maharashtra, Goa, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Services and host Gujarat will participate in the men’s kabaddi tournament. The women’s competition will feature teams from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and host Gujarat.
